Smaller electric minibus options
If you are looking to move towards electric vehicles, the UK regulations have recently changed so that drivers with a standard car licence can now drive an electric minibus (or any zero-emission vehicle) with a MAM of up to 4250kg. This has removed the barrier for many drivers, with a standard car licence, looking to drive 11-12 seat minibuses or slightly larger. We have two electric minibus options: the 15-seat Ford Electric Minibus and the 14-seat Maxus EDeliver9 Minibus.

Who can drive 11-12 seat Minibuses?
This is a common question often asked of the Rivervale Minibus team. We aim to answer this as simply as possible, because it depends on the type of organisation you are driving for, and whether you are being paid to do so.
If you are driving for an organisation that holds a Section 19 Permit, who is not profiting from its minibus operations, and you are not being paid to do so, you can drive minibuses with a MAM of up to 3500kg on your standard car licence (4250kg for ZEV) without D1 entitlement. Other conditions apply, including being over 21 and having your licence for over 2 years.
If you are driving for a commercial organisation that is making a profit from its operations, you need a full D1 licence and CPC to drive a minibus.
Our team at Rivervale Minibus are on hand to answer any questions you may have about 11-12 seat minibuses or the licences needed to drive them.
