New chassis cab variant expands the PV5 range with multiple conversion options and a payload of up to 1,005kg
Kia is broadening its electric commercial vehicle line-up with the launch of a new PV5 chassis cab, designed to give fleet operators greater flexibility across a range of business applications.
The new model is the first dedicated fully electric chassis cab from Kia and uses the company’s PBV-specific E-GMP.S platform.
Designed for multiple commercial applications
The PV5 chassis cab accommodates a variety of body types and specialist conversions.
In the UK, Kia’s official PBV Conversion Partner, TGS Automotive Group, will offer several options, including lightweight tipper, dropside and box bodies.
Operators will also be able to specify additional equipment such as mesh cages, fall arrest systems, Chapter 8 solutions and beacons.
Kia hasn't yet revealed full official specifications, but previously announced figures indicate a maximum payload of 1,005kg and up to eight cubic metres of load space when equipped with a high box body.
Warranty coverage
The PV5 chassis cab comes with a seven-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty, which can be extended to cover up to 160,000 miles.
The vehicle’s battery is covered by an eight-year warranty.
Long Range powertrain
The chassis cab will be available exclusively with Kia’s Long Range powertrain, with the final driving range dependent on the conversion and body configuration.
For comparison, the L2H1 PV5 Cargo with the Long Range system offers up to 260 miles of WLTP range.
The vehicle has a 120kW power output and supports DC fast charging. Kia says a 10-to-80% charge can be completed in around 30 minutes using a suitable DC charger.
With an 11kW AC connection, charging from 10% to 100% takes approximately six hours and 30 minutes.
Safety and driver assistance
Kia has equipped the chassis with a range of safety and driver assistance technology.
The vehicle features a dual annular steel exoskeleton and rear underrun protection, alongside an ADAS package.
Available systems include:
- Smart Cruise Control
- Lane Following Assist 2
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
These features are intended to provide additional support for drivers operating the vehicle in a range of commercial environments.
Kia expands its fleet technology offering
Alongside the new vehicle, Kia has highlighted its Business Solutions ecosystem, which brings together connected services covering fleet management, charging and data.
The system is designed to provide commercial customers with access to telematics, charging services, business applications, fleet information and an online management portal.
Kia is also planning to introduce dedicated fleet manager functionality next year.
PV5 already holds a Guinness World Records title
The chassis cab launch comes after a record-breaking achievement for the PV5 Long Range.
The electric van recently secured a Guinness World Records title for the greatest distance travelled by a light-duty electric van at maximum payload on a single charge.
The vehicle covered 693.38km (431 miles) during the record attempt.
With the addition of the chassis cab, Kia is extending the PV5 platform into a wider range of commercial applications, giving businesses more options when specifying an electric van for their individual operational requirements.
