Polestar is expanding the Polestar 4 range with a new, more practical SUV version, giving buyers another option alongside the sleek Polestar 4 Coupé.

The new Polestar 4 SUV will go on sale from 2 September 2026, promising to retain much of the distinctive styling, performance and driving character of the existing car while adding greater practicality and versatility.

It also clears up Polestar's naming strategy somewhat. The model we currently know simply as the Polestar 4 will become the Polestar 4 Coupé, while the newcomer takes the Polestar 4 SUV name.

More space without losing the Polestar character

Polestar hasn't revealed the new SUV in full just yet, but says it has been designed to provide more flexible storage and greater everyday usability.

Its more upright body shape should make the Polestar 4 particularly interesting to families and drivers who like the existing car but want something closer to a conventional premium SUV.

Development cars have already been spotted testing, with the new model appearing to feature a squarer rear end than the Coupé. Reports also suggest it will gain a conventional rear window, rather than relying entirely on the camera-based rear-view system used by the current Polestar 4 Coupé.

Up to 391 miles of range

Underneath, much of the technology will be familiar.

Polestar has confirmed Rear Motor and Dual Motor versions, with the most efficient models capable of up to 630km, or around 391 miles, of WLTP range. Dual Motor versions will offer as much as 544 hp.

Both the SUV and latest Coupé will also benefit from retuned chassis components, with Polestar promising to further develop the sporty driving dynamics for which the 4 has become known.

Production will take place in Busan, South Korea, alongside the existing Polestar 4.

When does the Polestar 4 SUV go on sale?

The Polestar 4 SUV will officially go on sale in the majority of Polestar markets from 2 September 2026, when we're expecting to learn considerably more about UK specifications, pricing and equipment.

For drivers attracted to the design and performance of the Polestar 4 but requiring a little more SUV practicality, it could become one of the most interesting additions to the premium electric car market this year.

We'll be watching closely as Polestar reveals more.
