The Geely EX2 is coming to the UK, and it could be one of the most interesting affordable electric cars to arrive in 2026.

Geely Auto UK has now confirmed pricing and specification details for the new EX2, with the compact electric hatchback starting from £20,990 on the road. That puts it firmly into the growing market for smaller, more affordable electric cars, where it will compete with models such as the Renault 5, Citroën ë-C3, BYD Dolphin Surf and Fiat Grande Panda.

For drivers who like the idea of going electric but have been put off by the price of larger EVs, the EX2 could be worth keeping a close eye on.

What is the Geely EX2?

The Geely EX2 is a compact fully electric hatchback designed for everyday driving. It is aimed at people who want a practical, easy-to-use EV without stepping into the size or price of a larger electric SUV.

In China, the EX2 is sold as the Geely Xingyuan, where it has already been a huge success. The UK version is now set to bring that same compact electric car formula to British roads.

While Geely is still a relatively new name for many UK drivers, the wider Geely group is already connected to several well-known automotive brands, including Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, smart, Zeekr and LEVC. The EX2 could help make the Geely name much more familiar in the UK.

Geely EX2 UK price and trim levels

The Geely EX2 will be available in three trim levels: Pro, Max and Ultra.

The entry-level Geely EX2 Pro starts from £20,990 on the road. It comes with a 35kWh battery, an 82hp electric motor and an official WLTP range of up to 155 miles.

The Geely EX2 Max starts from £23,490 on the road. This version gets a larger 47kWh battery, a more powerful 116hp electric motor and an official WLTP range of up to 214 miles.

The range-topping Geely EX2 Ultra starts from £25,490 on the road. It uses the same larger battery and motor as the Max, but adds more comfort, convenience and technology features.

All versions are rear-wheel drive, which is unusual and interesting for a compact electric car at this price point.

Which Geely EX2 model looks best?

The entry-level Pro is likely to attract attention because of its starting price. At £20,990, it gives buyers a relatively accessible route into a new electric car, especially for those who mainly drive locally.

However, the Max could be the version that makes the most sense for many drivers. For an additional £2,500 over the Pro, it adds the larger 47kWh battery, increases power from 82hp to 116hp and extends the official WLTP range from 155 miles to 214 miles.

That extra range could make a noticeable difference for drivers who commute longer distances, make regular weekend journeys or simply want to charge less often.

The Ultra then adds more equipment, including features such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera system, ambient lighting, two-tone paint, an electric tailgate and an upgraded six-speaker audio system.

How far can the Geely EX2 go on a charge?

The Geely EX2 Pro offers up to 155 miles of WLTP range, while the Max and Ultra versions offer up to 214 miles.

As with any electric car, the real-world range will depend on several factors, including driving style, temperature, journey type, road conditions, vehicle load and use of heating or air conditioning.

For many drivers, the Pro may be enough for local use, school runs, commuting and shorter daily journeys. Those who travel further or want more flexibility are likely to be better suited to the Max or Ultra.

How fast does the Geely EX2 charge?

Geely says the EX2 can charge from 30% to 80% in up to 25 minutes under optimal conditions.

The Pro supports up to 60kW DC rapid charging, while the Max and Ultra support up to 80kW DC rapid charging.

That means the EX2 should be capable of useful top-ups on longer journeys, although charging times will always depend on the charger being used, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions.

Is the Geely EX2 practical?

The Geely EX2 may be compact, but practicality appears to be one of its strengths.

Geely lists boot space at 375 litres, expanding to 1,320 litres with the rear seats folded. That is a useful amount of space for a car in this class and should make the EX2 suitable for shopping, commuting, luggage and everyday family use.

There is also a front storage area, often called a frunk, which gives additional space under the bonnet. Geely also says the EX2 has 36 storage spaces throughout the cabin, which should help make it feel practical day to day.

For a smaller electric car, those details matter. A low price is attractive, but a car still needs to work for real life.

What equipment does the Geely EX2 come with?

Even the entry-level EX2 Pro comes with a strong level of standard equipment.

Highlights include synthetic leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, an 8.8-inch driver display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and start, and LED daytime running lights.

All versions also come with a package of driver assistance and safety technology, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.

The higher-spec Ultra adds more premium-feeling features, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera system, ambient lighting and an electric tailgate.

Why does the Geely EX2 matter?

The UK electric car market has grown quickly, but affordability remains one of the biggest barriers for many drivers.

There are plenty of excellent EVs available, but many are still expensive or sit in larger SUV segments. Smaller, more affordable electric cars are important because they make EV ownership feel more realistic for more people.

That is where the Geely EX2 could make an impact.

With a starting price of £20,990, a larger-battery version from £23,490 and a useful level of standard equipment, the EX2 looks like it could offer strong value in the compact EV market.

It will still need to prove itself on UK roads. Ride comfort, refinement, software, efficiency and dealer support will all be important. But on paper, the EX2 is already shaping up to be a car worth considering.

When will the Geely EX2 arrive in the UK?

The Geely EX2 is expected to launch in the UK in late August 2026.

As Geely continues to expand its UK model range, the EX2 could become one of its most important cars. It gives the brand a more affordable electric hatchback to sit below larger models such as the EX5 SUV, helping Geely appeal to a wider range of drivers.

Rivervale verdict

The Geely EX2 could be one of the most relevant new electric cars of 2026.

It is compact, sensibly priced, well equipped and available with a larger battery offering up to 214 miles of WLTP range. For drivers who want to move into an electric car without choosing a large SUV or spending significantly more money, it could be a very interesting option.

The Max version looks particularly appealing on paper, thanks to its larger battery, improved range and still-competitive price.

We will be watching the Geely EX2 closely as it arrives in the UK and will share more information as soon as leasing availability, finance options and full UK launch details become available.
