Renault Twingo E-Tech electric has been crowned Electric Car of the Year at the Top Gear EV Awards 2026. This marks the second consecutive headline victory for Renault, following the Renault 4 E-Tech electric in 2025.

Second Consecutive Award for Renault

The Renault Twingo E-Tech electric builds on the success of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, demonstrating Renault’s consistent approach to creating compact and accessible electric vehicles. Top Gear judges praised the Twingo for its intelligent simplicity, lightweight design, and exceptional efficiency, alongside its distinctive character and practicality for everyday use.

Striking Design and Urban Practicality

Nicknamed Le Frog due to its striking front end, the Twingo E-Tech combines a compact city-friendly footprint with technology normally associated with larger cars. Its 60kW electric motor and 27.5kWh LFP battery focus on efficiency and low running costs. Features like One Pedal driving and OpenR Link with Google built-in support make daily driving effortless.

Interior, cabin quality and comfort

Inside, sliding rear seats enhance flexibility and maximise usable space. The Twingo’s cheerful character and distinctive design make it stand out in the A-segment, offering both personality and practicality in the small electric car market.

Expanding Renault’s Electric Vehicle Range

The Twingo E-Tech electric is the most accessible model in Renault’s seven-strong electric vehicle range. It complements the newly released Renault 5, providing UK drivers with a practical and affordable entry point into zero-emission motoring. It is expected to compete with value-focused EVs such as the Citroen e-C3 and Dacia Spring, targeting city drivers seeking efficiency, style, and affordability.

Efficiency and Performance

While technical specifications are not fully revealed, Renault has indicated the Twingo will achieve up to 6.2 miles per kWh, highlighting its impressive real-world range for a compact battery. Inspired by the 1992 Renault Twingo, the EV blends retro styling with modern technology. Renault’s EV and software division, Ampere, leads development and production across the Renault Group, including Alpine and Dacia.

Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive highlighted the Twingo’s potential in the UK and European markets:

“A car under £20,000 has huge potential. The Twingo delivers design, technology, and driving dynamics that will appeal to a wide audience.”

The Twingo aims to broaden EV accessibility, offering drivers more choice in the growing electric city car segment without compromising style or practicality
