Ford has confirmed a major expansion of BlueCruise, its hands-free motorway driving technology, and it is coming to several key models popular with UK drivers. From spring 2026, BlueCruise will be available on selected versions of the Ford Puma, Puma Gen E, Kuga and Ranger Plug In Hybrid when ordered with the Driver Assistance Pack.
This marks the next phase of Ford’s plan to bring advanced driver assistance features to a wider range of customers. BlueCruise first launched in Great Britain in 2023 on the Mustang Mach E. It was the first system in Europe approved for hands-off, eyes-on motorway driving. Since then, it has expanded across sixteen European markets and now covers more than 135,000 kilometres of designated motorways known as Blue Zones.
What BlueCruise means for UK drivers
BlueCruise takes the strain out of long motorway journeys. The system manages speed, braking, steering and lane positioning once activated in an approved Blue Zone. Drivers can remove their hands from the wheel while keeping their eyes on the road. A camera inside the cabin checks eye gaze and head position to make sure the driver is still paying attention.
The system uses a forward-facing camera and radar to monitor road markings, speed signs and traffic conditions. It can operate at motorway speeds or while crawling through stop and go traffic.
For UK motorists, this update is significant. The Ford Puma and Kuga consistently rank among the most searched and most leased cars on our site. Adding BlueCruise to these models gives more customers access to a feature that was previously limited to the Mustang Mach E.
Supported models from 2026
In addition to the Mustang Mach-E, BlueCruise will be available on:
- Ford Puma EcoBoost Hybrid
- Ford Puma Gen E
- Ford Kuga Hybrid and Plug In Hybrid
- Ford Ranger Plug In Hybrid
Each model must be equipped with the Driver Assistance Pack and a monthly subscription must be paid.
Real world usage and reliability
Ford says more than one million BlueCruise equipped vehicles are already in use around the world. Drivers have covered more than 888 million kilometres using the technology, which gives the brand a large amount of real world data to refine the system.
With Blue Zones covering much of Europe, the tech supports multi country journeys. While UK Blue Zones only apply to motorways in Great Britain, the coverage is still wide enough to support regular long distance travel.
When can customers order it?
BlueCruise will be offered on new model year versions of the Puma, Puma Gen E, Kuga and Ranger Plug In Hybrid from spring 2026. This applies to factory orders only. Vehicles currently on sale do not support the update.
If you are researching your next car or comparing options, the updated Puma and Puma Gen E are expected to be among the most popular choices once BlueCruise arrives.
