New Jaecoo 8 heads to the UK with bold luxury SUV ambitions

Vehicle Reviews & News

The new Jaecoo 8 is set to arrive in the UK later this year as a larger, more premium sibling to the Jaecoo 7. With six or seven seats, plug-in hybrid power and a strong standard spec, it could be one of the most talked-about new SUVs of 2026.

If the Jaecoo 7 was the model that got people talking, the new Jaecoo 8 looks like the one designed to make buyers take the brand even more seriously.

Coming to the UK later in 2026, the Jaecoo 8 will sit at the top of the brand’s line-up as a larger, more premium SUV with either six or seven seats, plug-in hybrid power, four-wheel drive and a clear focus on comfort, technology and family-friendly space. Jaecoo’s own UK site lists two versions at launch: a seven-seat Luxury model from £45,495 and a six-seat Executive from £46,995. Orders are open, with first UK deliveries widely reported from May.

For Rivervale customers, this is an interesting arrival.

The large SUV market is one of the most competitive parts of the UK car scene right now. Buyers want presence, practicality and premium kit, but many also want lower running costs than a traditional petrol or diesel seven-seater can offer. That is where the Jaecoo 8 is trying to make its case. It combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System, producing 428PS and 580Nm, with four-wheel drive and a claimed 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds. Independent UK reports say it can travel up to 83 miles on electric power alone.

On paper at least, that gives it a strong headline advantage.

For company car drivers, business users and families doing mixed journeys, a plug-in hybrid with that kind of electric range could be genuinely useful. If most weekday driving is local, school-run, office commute or short business mileage, there is a decent chance many trips could be handled mostly on battery power, while the petrol engine adds peace of mind for longer motorway runs. That dual-purpose flexibility is a big part of the Jaecoo 8’s appeal.

It is not just about the powertrain, either.

The Jaecoo 8 is clearly being pitched as a premium-feeling SUV rather than simply a bigger Jaecoo 7. Official UK specs include 20-inch alloy wheels, torque-vectoring four-wheel drive, adaptive CDC suspension, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Sony 14-speaker audio system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, over-the-air updates, online navigation and a connected car system with 4G and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

Inside, the focus seems to be comfort as much as capacity.

Both versions get electrically adjustable front seats, ventilation for the driver, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, rear privacy glass and a heated and cooled front centre armrest. The Executive steps things up further with powered second-row captain’s chairs that recline, fold and even offer a massage function. That should give it real appeal for buyers who want a more lounge-like second row rather than maximum passenger count.

The seven-seat Luxury model may be the more natural fit for larger households, though. It gives buyers the flexibility of a third row while still offering features like second-row heating and ventilation, split-folding rear seats and ISOFIX child seat anchors in the second row. That makes it feel like a car aimed squarely at modern family life rather than just showroom wow factor.

Jaecoo is also making a point of the 8’s road presence and capability. The official UK page highlights the waterfall grille, hidden door handles, LED rear light signature, four-wheel drive system and adaptive damping setup, while UK launch coverage points to off-road style features such as terrain response-style controls and a more adventurous positioning than many family SUVs.

Of course, design will be one of the biggest talking points.

There is no getting away from the fact that the Jaecoo 8 has a shape and stance that will remind plenty of UK buyers of premium SUVs already on the road. That familiarity may actually help it. For customers who like the look and presence of a much more expensive luxury SUV, but do not want the premium-brand price tag, the Jaecoo 8 could land at exactly the right time.

It is also arriving with momentum behind the badge. The Jaecoo 7 made a major splash in the UK, recording 4,059 registrations in January 2026 and finishing as the country’s second best-selling new car that month, behind only the Kia Sportage. That is an eye-catching result for a still-new brand and suggests there is genuine appetite in the market for this kind of value-led, high-spec SUV offering.

The big question now is whether the Jaecoo 8 can turn curiosity into serious consideration from buyers who might otherwise be looking at cars like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Skoda Kodiaq or higher-spec plug-in hybrid SUVs from more established names. Based on the early numbers and equipment list, it certainly has a chance.

For leasing customers, the key will be how competitively it lands on monthly rentals once funders and brokers begin pricing it properly. If Jaecoo can match its headline spec with strong finance and leasing offers, the 8 could become one of the more disruptive new large SUVs of 2026.

At the very least, it looks set to make this end of the market much more interesting.
