The Polestar 5 is an upcoming electric Grand Tourer (GT) that combines supercar-level performance with the comfort and elegance expected from a luxury sedan. Scheduled for release in 2025, the Polestar 5 aims to set new standards in the EV market.

Design and Chassis

The Polestar 5's design is inspired by the Polestar Precept concept, featuring a sleek, aerodynamic exterior with robotic and modern aesthetics. Its unibody chassis is crafted from anodised aluminium, utilising heat-cured adhesive bonding instead of traditional welding. This innovative approach reduces weight while enhancing torsional stiffness, contributing to improved handling and performance.

Performance and Battery Technology

Under the hood, the Polestar 5 boasts two high-output electric motors, one at each axle, delivering a combined 884 horsepower. This setup positions the Polestar 5 as one of the most powerful four-door EVs on the market, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. The vehicle is built on an 800-volt architecture, allowing for faster charging and reduced weight through thinner wiring.

In collaboration with battery experts StoreDot, Polestar has developed extreme fast charging (XFC) technology for the Polestar 5. In real-world tests, prototypes equipped with a 77 kWh battery featuring silicon-dominant cells achieved charging speeds from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes. This rapid charging capability can add approximately 200 miles of range in the time it takes for a typical pit stop, significantly enhancing convenience for long-distance travel.

Interior and Features

While the interior design specifics are yet to be fully revealed, insights from the Polestar Precept concept suggest a focus on high-quality materials and sustainable design. The cabin is expected to feature a nine-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, providing a seamless and intuitive user experience. Advanced driver assistance systems, including driver attention monitoring, three-zone climate control, LiDAR technology, and a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio setup, are anticipated to be standard offerings.

Pricing and Availability

The Polestar 5 is projected to arrive in the UK in 2025, with pricing expected to start around £130,000. Given Polestar's reputation for blending performance with sustainability, the Polestar 5 is poised to be a compelling option for enthusiasts seeking an electrifying driving experience without compromising on luxury or practicality.

Conclusion

The Polestar 5 represents a significant leap forward in the evolution of electric performance vehicles. By integrating cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, and sustainable design, it aims to redefine what is possible in the EV segment, offering a glimpse into the future of automotive excellence
