Updated design
The new NX receives a subtle but noticeable styling update. At the front, a new frameless spindle grille is integrated more closely with the bodywork, while new all-weather headlights give the SUV a sharper appearance. The rear also gets a revised lighting design, with the Lexus logo incorporated into the illuminated rear light bar.
Inside, the cabin has been redesigned around a cleaner, more horizontal layout. A new 12.3-inch digital instrument display sits alongside a 14-inch multimedia screen, while Lexus has introduced its Responsive Hidden Switches to keep the dashboard looking uncluttered.
More capable hybrid powertrains
The biggest changes are underneath the skin. Both the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid and NX 350h self-charging hybrid adopt Lexus's sixth-generation hybrid technology.
The NX 450h+ now produces 303bhp and is expected to offer more than 60 miles of electric driving range. It also becomes the first Lexus plug-in hybrid to support DC fast charging, with a claimed 10–80% charging time of around 30 minutes.
The NX 350h is also great from a technical improvements point of view, including a lighter battery and improved performance. Both versions now have a 1,500kg towing capacity.
A quieter and more refined drive
Lexus has also focused on improving the way the NX drives. The body structure has been strengthened, while the suspension, steering and braking systems have been retuned. The company says engine and road noise have been reduced by around 20%, helping create a quieter cabin.
The NX has also been tuned specifically for European driving conditions, including development work at the Nürburgring.
More technology and safety
Technology has been upgraded throughout the cabin. The latest LexusConnect multimedia system offers faster processing, increased storage and a more intuitive interface. Connected services through the LexusLink+ app provide features such as navigation, vehicle information and remote climate control.
Safety has also been enhanced, with the latest Lexus Safety System+ fitted as standard. Its upgraded sensors provide a wider field of detection, while systems such as Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist have all received additional functionality.
The next step for the NX
Rather than being a completely new generation, the updated NX represents a substantial mid-life upgrade. Lexus has concentrated on areas that affect everyday use, from electric range and charging to comfort, technology and safety.
With UK specifications and pricing still to be announced, the updated NX looks set to strengthen Lexus's position in the competitive premium SUV market when it arrives in 2027.
