MFG EV Power has announced a summer price cut across its ultra-rapid EV charging network, reducing the cost of charging from 79p/kWh to 59p/kWh until 30 September 2026.

The 25% reduction applies across MFG’s ultra-rapid charging network, giving electric vehicle drivers a more affordable way to top up during the busy summer travel period.

For drivers planning longer journeys, family holidays or regular motorway trips, the saving could make a noticeable difference. A typical 30kWh public charging session would cost £17.70 at the new 59p/kWh rate, compared with £23.70 at 79p/kWh. That is a saving of £6 per charge.

What does this mean for EV drivers?

Public charging cost is one of the key considerations for electric car drivers, especially for those who cannot always charge at home or who regularly travel longer distances.

While home charging often remains the cheapest way to run an electric vehicle, public rapid and ultra-rapid chargers play an important role in making longer journeys easier. They allow drivers to add range quickly, stop for a coffee or food break, and continue their journey without lengthy delays.

MFG’s summer price reduction should be welcome news for EV drivers who are likely to use public charging more often over the holiday period.

Where can drivers use the reduced MFG charging rate?

MFG EV Power operates one of the UK’s growing ultra-rapid charging networks, with chargers located at forecourts, retail sites and a large number of Morrisons supermarket locations.

The network includes ultra-rapid chargers with outputs of 150kW, 300kW and up to 400kW. Charging speed will vary depending on the vehicle, the charger, battery temperature and the car’s charging curve, but compatible electric cars can recover a useful amount of range in a short stop.

For many drivers, this makes ultra-rapid charging ideal for longer journeys, business travel and those occasions where waiting for a slower charger simply is not practical.

Why this matters for electric car leasing

The UK’s charging network has improved significantly over recent years, but charging price remains a common question for drivers considering an electric car lease.

At Rivervale, we speak to customers every day who are weighing up the benefits of switching to an EV. Monthly lease cost, range, charging access, Benefit-in-Kind tax and real-world running costs all play a part in the decision.

Price cuts like this help show how the public charging market is becoming more competitive. For drivers who already have an EV, it offers a useful saving during the summer. For those still considering the switch, it is another positive sign that charging infrastructure and choice are continuing to improve.

Is now a good time to lease an electric car?

For many drivers, yes. Electric cars are becoming more practical, more affordable and easier to live with. There is now a wide choice of electric hatchbacks, SUVs, executive cars and vans available on lease, with options to suit private motorists, company car drivers and fleets.

The right EV will depend on how you drive, where you charge and how much range you realistically need. Some drivers will be best suited to a smaller, efficient electric car for commuting and local journeys. Others may need a larger family SUV, a long-range company car or an electric van for business use.

Rivervale can help compare electric car leasing deals, explain charging options and guide you through the practical points before you make the switch.

Rivervale’s view

Cheaper ultra-rapid charging is good news for EV drivers, particularly during the summer when more people are travelling further afield.

While most EV owners will still aim to charge at home, at work or through a salary sacrifice scheme where possible, access to reliable and competitively priced public charging helps remove one of the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption.

For drivers considering an electric car lease, this latest price cut is a reminder that the EV market is continuing to move in the right direction.
